You can't imagine what a comfort it's been to me this past year... a comfort that comes first of all from having been so easily and warmly accepted in a state so distinctly different from NY, where I was born, raised and lived until 1999. I'm a single senior lady who gravitated to Winnsboro, South Carolina for personal reasons we won't delve into here, but suffice it to say that "living" here has by far exceeded either my hopes or expectations. My purpose in presenting this personal welcome site is one of hommage and perhaps even one intending a subtle persuasion to any who've read this far and may be considering a change of lifestyle, change of residence, or just a change of scene. I want to heartily recommend my home town of Winnsboro, SC and the county in which I reside; they're genuinely kinder, gentler and more openly accepting folks here than any place I've ever lived before. The "open doors" found here truly thrill me and I'd like to share with my viewers what lies inside these welcoming portals. I hope you'll all enjoy yourselves on the pages that follow, hope you'll bookmark the site for updates and most of all, hope you'll consider a visit...the WELCOME mat is out--c'mon down! I'm hard pressed to describe many of the beauties here without some graphic or photo. Those will come elsewhere on my pages and supplied by a very dear friend/photographer who is also a transplant to this fine state from another northern clime. We've had bunches of fun traveling the backroads of Fairfield County in search of "viewpoints" others might not readily see.
So what is it that makes Fairfield County, Winnsboro and its immediate neighbors, in particular, one of the best and most affordable places to live in-- to retire in, to play in? Its virtues are many. We'll begin close to home.

Wonderful Town, Winnsboro -- to navigate. It's so well-laid out that even I can find my way around. I get lost fairly easily, you see, and my sense of direction leaves much to be desired. But with the 2 distinct business/shopping areas, anyone can find what they're looking for!
Being a child of the Depression era, I think the way we seniors shop must be a whole lot different than any other later generation of shoppers. What unifies all of us, however, is that we know WHERE TO SHOP and WHEN. Thrift shopping, too, is another realm only now catching on with the younger generations. But we seniors have known "thrift" from day one. Winnsboro has its share of thrift shops or second-hand stores as well as retail shops operated by some old-timers as well. If you're into SUPER-SHOPPING, Winnsboro supplies the WHERE for this as well with a BI-LO Super Food Mart, located on US 321Bypass as you enter Winnsboro from southern regions. Another SUPER-SHOP is the WAL-MART's, also on 321Bypass in Winnsboro but further (less than a mile) north, and there's Food Lion / CVS shopping mall housing a bunch of goodies as well. FAST FOOD? Hey, sometimes we all want a bite of fast food to fill up an empty stomach. Winnsboro's got a MCDONALD's, KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN, PIZZA HUT, SONIC's, SUBWAY's SANDWICH & SALAD, SPEEDEE WOK and CHINA WOK. Like shopping in the "Dollar" stores? We've 3 of them. Larger sit-down restaurants are numerous but my own personal pick (since this is my personal page) would be The Captain's Galley, who also does Take-Out for the freshest, most delectable seafood around (get there early; they're usually packed,) and The News & Herald Tavern with both dine in and carry out service. This in no way is an endorsement of only those named nor besmerchment of any unnamed establishments; this just doesn't seem the place to do the whole nine yards here....perhaps another page???

Up until today we've had no fool-proof way of
communicating succinctly our complex concepts and deeper sentiments. Words are beautiful, but they
do have their limitations. Some added color helps explain our intent and meaning, but still....
I've always thought that one day these limitations
